Hawthorn at the cottage |
Well it's Autumn (allegedly) but I can say with authority that Autumn has not yet deigned to visit my corner of the world; Summer is really lingering on here and refusing to let go. I'd say we're in our fifth month of heat, heat and more heat with little to no relief. We're also currently in a drought with rain desperately needed for water tanks, wildlife, livestock and before the farmers start sowing seed. It shows the wild nature of our continent, while Queensland is getting devastating flooding and hurricanes, we're in a serious drought, Victoria's Grampians were on fire - so much so that a wind blew remnants of the smoke all the way up to our part of the country. The weather is confusing the natural world, my Hawthorn is both getting toward ripe fruit as well as pushing out more flowers, my St John's Wort flowered insanely during October last year, then started pushing out more flowers about a month ago.
This is usually my favourite season but not when it is still hot; I am hopeful that by the end of this month, early next month that the heat will have finally disappeared and we can start enjoying cooler weather. I have been somewhat remiss in blogging again, not intentionally but my office has zero air con and some days it was way too hot even with a fan. We had several days over 40C, I believe our hottest was about 46C and it was extremely unpleasant.I am starting to look toward the cooler months with a happier eye, I will be trying to finally get some handcrafted herbal wares into my herbal store and finally getting the first post written in my Smash or Trash series.
I hope your start to Autumn (or Spring if you are northern hem based) has been a good one, I wish you a happy Autumn Equinox however you celebrate it (if you do).
Green and Wild Blessings to All
