Welcome to the Hellmouth

That sounds dramatic doesn’t it? (Also, yes, Buffy fan over here). But the latter months of 2025 were trying and as I sit here now, we are just past two days over 45C with today (Friday) being very hot still and very muggy. I foresee my electricity bill making me cry next cycle.

It has been awhile since I posted anything here hasn’t it? Despite all best intentions it just didn’t happen for various reasons. My last post was in July and the following month I was diagnosed with PVFS which is basically Chronic Fatigue Syndrome bought on by serious viral infections in a short space of time. Come November I hit my third serious viral infection inside of twelve months (Covid December 2024, Pneumonia in April/May 2025 and severe Bronchitis in November 2025). I have spent the latter half of last year being very tired, very low energy and just taking each day as it comes.

And just when we started getting past the worst of our illness (Scott also got really sick but he did get past it a bit quicker than I did) our town was rocked by what was referred to as a “mesocyclonic supercell thunderstorm” – it was also referred to as the “most significant storm event on record”. It was an incredible sight to see, even being right in the middle of it. Our part of town where we live was hit the hardest and had the most damage – the golf course up the road lost over 100 trees and the basic cleanup along the streets took over a week. There is still signs of significant damage to this area, mostly trees and gardens, if you saw my YT short, you would have seen the utter destruction it wrought on my garden here at home. It was devastating because I had so many tomatoes on my plants and would have had a bountiful harvest, the plants are starting to grow back now but it has been hard to get back into wanting to garden because it really broke my heart.

1) Scott's hand up against the hail that bucketed down
2) The end of our street once the storm had passed

December started heating up so I wasn’t able to do as much in the garden as I would have liked, it was sad because November was a very mild month but I was sick and then the garden was destroyed. It’s not been an easy second half of 2025, we’ve had a hot start to 2026 so right now my energy is still very low but I am going to try and get myself back into my business and blogging as much as my physicality will allow and hopefully I can start putting out more content for this year.

The next morning after the storm

I hope your New Year was a good one and is bringing you many blessings for 2026.
