So we’re at the end of April, how did that happen? We’re at Samhain – the days are much shorter, the nights are cooling (not quick enough for me, I long for the cool days too). The garden is giving up its abundance in the form of eggplant and chillies, the small pumpkins are picked, the zucchini are winding down and we are now looking toward putting in the winter crops for growing.
I didn’t even realise my last post was in January – it’s flown through so fast; February and March were blips on a calendar or so it feels like. This year has been pretty quiet. We did Gawler Psychic Fair in March (thankfully less hot than last year), Hunbun did the Fantasy Medieval Fair in Mt Gambier with our good friends LaLuna Palace and so far our only other market for the year is the second Gawler Psychic Fair in August. Although we may be doing a short fair in our local area once I get myself organised and call them. I have to say I am actually enjoying not doing markets this year – aside from not having the energetic capability of actually doing big markets that we’re at for three days letalone the prep leading up to it – it’s nice to just to be having a quiet time doing gardening and being more of a homebody. I have struggled with the chronic fatigue so the break has been needed.
I’m not doing anything special for Samhain, I used to do altars and the whole thing but I honestly don’t have the energy for anything full on. I think I will light a candle to honour my Matron goddess, offer her mead or whiskey and honour the Sabbat that way. I may do a card reading for the second half of the year, see what is in store since I didn’t get around to doing a year ahead reading, possibly light some incense for the Spirits. I’ve not overly involved myself in any sort of Sabbat practice for some time now, those of you who have been following the blog for awhile will be familiar with the reasons. Throw in a couple of medical conditions that make getting out of bed tiring and you have to be very careful where you expend your energy.
What plans do you have for the Samhain? Are you doing anything elaborate or just quietly reflecting on the night and keeping things low key?
